Financial & Debt Counselling
Debt is not uncommon in our society. Most of us get into debt at some stage in our life. We may have to borrow to buy a house or a car or to take a holiday.
It is not debt in itself that is a problem. The problem begins when we find we cannot manage and service debt
Often when a debt problem erupts is can seem like an easy solution to ignore it and hope it will go away. Problems can often be difficult to face especially when it has something to do with our finances. Even the thought of talking to someone about it can be embarrassing or painful. Dignity and pride need to be maintained.
It is for exactly these reasons that as a community we have a network of financial counselling services which aim to achieve that: resolving an individual’s debt problems confidentially while ensuring the individual retains their dignity and pride.
Financial counselling services assist low to middle income earners to resolve their financial difficulties and address the issues that may have lead to the situation. Community agencies or State and Federal governments fund most services.
What can financial counselling do for me?
Financial counselling can help ease the emotional burden of trying to resolve your debt problems by yourself and help you to regain control of your financial affairs.
A financial counselor will assess your situation; review how and where you spend your income; assist you to prepare a budget which reflects the way you earn and spend; and develop options for resolving your financial difficulties.
Problems with money can often overlap into other areas of our lives. We can feel guilty, helpless, or powerless. Relationships can become unstable, marriages are sometimes threatened, and in all the confusion, it sometimes seems like there is nobody out there to help.
Rather than allowing your money problems to affect your life in such a dramatic way, get your life back on track by facing the problem and making an appointment to see a financial counselor.
Here are a few questions that you can ask your financial counselor:
